The Nord: a prolific region

Northern France was an artistically fertile region until the 14th century, although it suffered many conflicts. With the passage of time, most of the artistic production of this period - monuments and liturgical objects alike - disappeared. The statue of Saint Catherine is part of a small heritage that has come down to us. Although its provenance is unknown, we can speculate as to its place of display. It is highly likely that this liturgical statue was displayed in a chapel within a church or private building.
