The story of Saint Catherine has come down to us through Jacques de Voragine's Légende Dorée, written between 1260 and 1266.

"I am Catherine, daughter of King Coste [...] Brought up from childhood in the liberal arts, I disdained all that to take refuge with my Lord Jesus Christ [...]"
"A young girl of incomparable wisdom and wit, who refutes all scholars, and claims that all our gods are nothing but demons."
