Who is saint Michael?

The figure of the angel Michael is common to Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

In the Epistle of Saint Jude, the archangel Michael is mentioned in conflict with the devil.

In the Celestial Hierarchy, a 5th-century text, archangels belong to the second tier and can have specific roles. Saint Michael, for instance, assumes a triple role: warrior, judge, and psychopomp, meaning the one who guides souls to Paradise.

On this capital, these three roles are illustrated.
